Magazine Writer and Photographer Information
Calling all skating journalists and photographers! We want to publish your work in USA Roller Sports: The Magazine. What exactly are we looking for? Anything that will inspire, educate and entertain your fellow roller athletes and fans. You don't need to be a professional scribe or shutterbug; you just need to have a genuine passion for the sport and the desire to share your knowledge, stories and images with the rest of the skating world. Guidelines
Subject Matter:
If you have a topic you'd like to tackle or a great set of photos you want to show off, please give me a call (402.483.7551 ext. 31) or send me an e-mail (jrettig@usarollersports.org) and we can discuss it. Or if you're attending a big competition and want something to do between events, let me know and you can cover all of the happenings for the magazine.
Word Count:
I don't like to give word counts. In my experience, writers become obsessed with the number of words they've written and lose track of their message. So, I tell people to use as much space as they need in order to get their point across and things will be just fine. However, I understand that some writers like to have a number to shoot for, so here you go: 1500-1800 words = about two magazine pages, including a photo; 800 words = about one magazine page, including a photo. Keep in mind, though, that I've had writers turn in articles upwards of 3000 words and less than 200 words; as long as the content is good, length (or lack thereof) is not an issue. We'll make it fit!
Photo Specs:
Pretty simple - highest dpi possible, no watermarks. You may e-mail them to me at the above address; give me the address to your web site so that I can pull them off myself; or, if the files are particularly large, you may post them directly to our designer Jimmy Brannon's FTP site. If you choose this option, please contact me and I'll give you the appropriate address and password information.
