2010 BOARD OF DIRECTORS ELECTIONS FOR
HOCKEY ATHLETE REPRESENTATIVE,
CERTIFIED COACH REPRESENTATVE
AND AT-LARGE DIRECTOR
In accordance with previous USA Roller Sports Board election notices, the resumes of candidates who met the January 15 deadline for nomination were forwarded to two separate Nominating Committees for certification to stand for election.
ATHLETE NOMINATING COMMITTEE - The Athlete Nominating Committee, chaired by the USA Roller Sports USOC Athlete Advisory Council representative, Trace Hansen, certified the eligibility of Charlotte Nicholson to stand for election to fill the Hockey Athlete position.
Charlotte Nicholson, Morrisville, North Carolina: Nicholson is a current athlete representative on the USARS Inline Hockey Committee and the USARS Membership/Eligibility Committee. She has been a member of the following highly successful USA Roller Sports Women's World Championship Inline Hockey Teams: 2009-Varese, Italy (Gold Medal); 2008-Dusseldorf, Germany (Bronze Medal); 2007-Bilbao, Spain (Gold Medal); 2006- Detroit, Michigan (Gold Medal) and 2004-London, Canada (Silver Medal). Nicholson is currently attending Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, enrolled in the Owen Graduate School of Management, and expects to attain her Master of Accountancy in May.
NOMINATING COMMITTEE - Chaired by past USARS Board Chairman and President Gary Castro, this Committee reviewed the resumes of all candidates for the At-Large and the Certified Coach Board seats. In accordance with the USA Roller Sports election requirements, only two candidates can be certified to stand for election for the Coach position. The Committee determined that the names of Gloria Manning and Ed Mueller should be put on the mail ballot that will be sent to eligible coach electors.
Gloria Manning, Miami, Florida: Currently serving on the USARS Board as the Coach Representative, Manning began coaching in 1969. Through the years she has successfully coached members of Speed and Artistic World Teams. She was the 2006 Junior World Roller Figure Team Coach, the 2007 Senior World Figure Team Coach and the Pan Am Championships Team Coach in 2006. Manning is currently serving as the Southern Regional USARS Chairperson and on its Executive Board.
Ed Mueller, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida: Currently serving on the USA Roller Sports Speed Committee, Mueller began coaching in 1968 and has coached both artistic and speed skaters. Since 1984 he has focused his efforts on speed, leading athletes to attain success on USA World Teams. Mueller has also been active with the Southern Regional USARS Association, having served on its Executive Board and as Treasurer of its Speed Coaches Association. He was the Meet Director at the 2009 National Speed Skating Championships.
Additional Athlete or Coach Candidates - Nomination by Petition - June 1, 2010 is the deadline for eligible electors to submit names of additional nominees by petition for election as an athlete or coach representative. Such petitions must contain the signatures of twenty-five (25) eligible hockey athlete electors for the Hockey athlete board vacancy, and the signatures of seventy-five (75) eligible Certified Coach electors for a candidate's addition by petition to the Coach's board seat slate.
The petition must include a submitted factual biography which shows his or her qualifications for the board seat and the signature of the nominee consenting to nomination by petition. All candidates must agree to abide by the USARS Code of Ethics.
The respective Nominating Committees shall review and certify each candidate prior to submission to the membership. Additional information on who is eligible to run for these two open Board seats and who is eligible to sign the petition to place them on it following the January 15 close for simple nominations can be found on our website at www.usarollersports.org, in the USA Roller Sports Bylaws.
AT-LARGE BOARD POSITIONS - In accordance with the USARS Bylaws, the Nominating Committee shall nominate At-Large Board candidates - or alternate candidates, at the discretion of the Board, may be proposed. Mark Vittese of Woodbury, New Jersey, and Ed Harney of Antelope, California, have been certified by the Nominating Committee to run for the At-Large Board seat in 2010. Vittese currently fills this position, with a term that will expire at the conclusion of the Fall-2010 USARS Board Meeting.
