Something about me: My name is John Burchfield and I am 26 years old. I have been competitively roller figure skating for 19 years. I am a World Silver and Bronze Medalist, Pan American Games Silver Medalist, and 20-time US National Champion. I began my training at 7 years old at the now closed Merritt Island Skate Center in Merritt Island, Florida. I have since relocated to Astro Skating Center of Orlando where I have trained since 2003. My Coach is Vickie Bateman who has been by my side for 24 Years. She guides me as I continue to grow into a stronger technical skater in addition to a more artistic and well-rounded athlete. There have been many highs and lows within my roller figure skating career thus far. The lows have come with, multiple injuries, multiple defeats, and many other hardships that have shaped me into the person and successful athlete I am today. However, on the other hand, the highs in skating have shown me the world through travel, connected me with amazing friends, and has shown me how much hard work pays off.
In 2018 I competed at the South American Championship where I placed 3rd in Bogota Colombia. This placement secured our countries flag for roller figure skating to be held in the 2019 Pan American Games. The qualification for the athlete then came around in January of 2019 at America’s Cup held in Orlando, Florida. I placed 1st which secured the one and only spot the USA had for the Pan American Games in roller figure skating. I have trained hard my entire life for moments of victory within this sport. However, this victory is not over as I continue to push my body and my mind past its limits, as I train for the biggest event of my skating career, the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.
